The Dealer's Voice is a game about hanging out with aliens in a mysterious bar and spending time to get to know them as you all figure out why you've been invited to begin with.

Currently, the game is in a pre-alpha state, and things are liable to be broken or unpolished. Thank you for your patience!

This demo is an early preview of the core mechanics, inspired by "Poker Night at the Inventory" 1 and 2, but set in an original universe and with a focus on character exploration and storytelling.

While further story mechanics have yet to be implemented, this stage of development is intended to refine and improve upon the core cardgame that acts as the players' primary means of progression.

Each player starts with 10 Fortunes. If you lose them all, you are knocked out.

Winner is the last surviving player, or the player with the most pennants after 10 hands. A joker, symbolizing the Mad Emperor is on the table as a representation of the pot, receiving all Fortunes paid at the start of an Era (a new hand).

Each new Era will also force all remaining players to pay a Tribute equal to one fortune to the Emperor, adding to his treasury. Players with only one Fortune are exempt.

Each turn, you can choose to pay, retreat or revolt.

Payment keeps you in the game and adds a card to your hand in exchange for a single Fortune.

Retreating preserves your remaining fortune, but you are out of that hand. Revolt allows you to target the Emperor or another player to attack for their Fortunes, equal to your chosen bet.

When a revolt is called, other players can choose to join for an equal bet. If any player participating wins, all players win and the pot will be split amongst the winners. (In the case of inequal distribution, the player declaring revolt gains the remainder.)

Your army’s strength is equal to the total value of the cards in your hand. If you retreat when you’re the richest player, you must pay a Fortune equal to the difference between your Fortune and the second-richest player’s Fortune to the Emperor (Joker).

An Era ends when three rounds elapse without anyone declaring Revolt, or a Revolt has been concluded regardless of result. The Emperor retains any remaining Fortunes, and will ask for tribute again.
