The Playable Alpha of a cardgame I'm developing - about four kingdoms fighting a mad King to survive.

Currently, many features are yet to be implemented, but this serves as a basic overview of the game.

Basic Rules:

There are four players and a joker. The four players have their own Pennants, a currency measuring the kingdom's wealth. Lose all of them, and your kingdom is destroyed.

The goal is to be the last surviving kingdom in the game through strategically choosing when to hold on and when to challenge the mad king that's driving the world to ruin.

At the start of every turn, the Joker claims a pennant from every kingdom as part of an unreasonable tax. Through challenging the Joker's reign and defeating it, you'll be able to win back the stolen resources.

To win against the Joker - you muster your army, represented by cards. The value of your cards are added together to calculate its total strength.  The numbered cards and the ace are equal to their represented value, while Jacks are worth 11, Queens are worth 12 and Kings are worth 13.

If the reinforcements you receive at the start of an Era are too weak, you can choose to retreat in response, forfeiting any pennants taken by the Joker. But when a Revolt is declared, all players must choose whether they wish to join or whether they wish to retreat - with the winners dividing their pennants amongst each other. Should no players win however, the Joker will keep it's spoils for the next era.

The Joker is crafty however, and its forces cannot be seen immediately, one being revealed every round. Every participating player who hasn't retreated will also gain an additional reinforcement card.

The game continues until three of the Kingdoms are destroyed, with the last remaining kingdom being declared the winner.

Future Mechanics to Implement:

  • Matching cards multiplying values exponentially (pairs, three of a kinds and four of a kinds)
  • The ability to select and alter game rules
  • Multiplying the Joker's loss penalty + payment tax depending on the amount of remaining players.
  • Characters
  • 'Click to Continue' between each round
  • SFX
  • Game Record Log (Wins and losses)
  • Title Screen (To make sure scene transitions function)
  • Fixing an edgecase: 'What if all remaining players lose simultaneously?'

The old zip files for the original, singleplayer games are available, but I think they're built for webGL.
